Domain Flipping for Beginners: How I Make $200/Month from Domains
You don’t need big money to profit from domain investing. After two years of trial and error, I now make a steady side income by buying and selling domains.
How I Started
In 2019, I thought domain flipping was easy—just register catchy names and wait. I registered a dozen, got zero offers. Then I learned there‘s a strategy.
Strategy: Pick Drops & Wait for End Users
- Watch expired domain auctions on NamePros
- Follow emerging niches like AI (.ai domains are hot)
- Keep names short, memorable, and commercially relevant
- Avoid high‑renewal TLDs like .io unless you have deep pockets
My First Sale
I registered `nftmarketing.ai` for $8, listed it on Sedo for $500. Three months later, I got an offer and closed at $200. Small, but it hooked me. Since then, I‘ve sold a few; my best was `cloudguru.dev` for $1,200.
Where to Sell
- Sedo: large marketplace, higher commission
- Afternic: owned by GoDaddy, good end‑user reach
- Dan.com: user‑friendly, lower fees (now part of GoDaddy)
Risks
Never invest money you can’t afford to lose. I allocate only 10% of my spare cash to domains. Always check trademarks on USPTO before registering.
Domain investing is about knowledge, not luck. Learn the ropes and you’ll find success.
Start with cheap TLDs like .xyz or .site to practice. Avoid expensive backorder services until you know what you’re doing.
