I Used AI to Generate 3D Models in Minutes — A Game Asset Tutorial

✍️ AI工具栏目🕒 March 26, 2026📖 6 min read🔥 热门

What used to take days now takes minutes. I tested Luma AI, Meshy, and TripoSR to generate game‑ready 3D assets. Here’s my workflow and results.

Why AI for 3D?

Indie devs lack resources to hire 3D artists. AI‑generated models are now good enough for prototypes and background assets.

Luma AI — Image to 3D

Luma’s “3D Capture” takes a few photos from different angles and outputs a textured model. I captured a figurine with my phone—the result was incredibly detailed, down to clothing folds. Free tier gives several captures daily.

Meshy — Text to 3D

Meshy generates low‑poly models from text prompts like “a low‑poly fantasy knight with sword”. Perfect for game engines. Free tier limited but usable.

TripoSR — Open‑Source Local

Stability AI’s open‑source model runs locally on a GPU with 6GB VRAM. Upload a single image, get a coarse 3D model in seconds. Quality lower than Luma, but private and free.

My Workflow

  • Generate concept art with Midjourney
  • Feed into Meshy to get base model
  • Tweak topology and UVs in Blender
  • Import to Unity, add materials and animations

AI 3D generation isn’t AAA‑ready, but it’s already a game‑changer for indie and VR prototypes.

💡

Always check commercial rights of AI‑generated models. Most allow commercial use, but read the fine print.
