Serverless Function Showdown: Alibaba vs Tencent vs Huawei

Serverless is the trend, but each provider’s function service differs in experience, cost, and ecosystem. I wrote test functions and compared cold starts, pricing, and dev experience.

Why Serverless?

No server management, pay per invocation, auto‑scale. Ideal for APIs, cron jobs, data processing.

Cold Start Latency

Alibaba: ~200ms cold start, hot start tens of ms
Tencent: ~150ms cold start, Node.js faster
Huawei: ~300ms cold start

Pricing

All three offer free tiers (~1M invocations/month). Low‑traffic apps pay nothing. After that, costs depend on memory usage.

Developer Experience

Alibaba: VS Code plugin, good docs
Tencent: Serverless Framework integration, one‑click deploy
Huawei: Functional but smaller ecosystem

Verdict

Alibaba and Tencent are both great for cold start and ecosystem. Huawei works well if you’re already using their cloud.

Serverless is perfect for lightweight backends, especially personal projects.
